Under general direction of the Research Data Supervisor II in the Specialized Litigation Reporting Section, the Research Data Specialist II will serve as the specialist on specialized and complex projects in areas related to the Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) patient population, data analytics and IST litigation, court reporting and data governance. The Specialized Litigation Reporting section is responsible for the research, analytics and data management necessary to submit court reports and respond to court data inquires related to the Coleman and Stiavetti litigations. The incumbent will work on the formulation of all data reports, data analyses and data driven responses. The incumbent will frequently interact with the Department's Legal Office, the Director's Office including the full executive team, and the Department of Justice Attorney General's Office.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Either I

One year of experience in the California state civil service performing data research-oriented duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Research Data Specialist II; or
II

Six years of progressively responsible quantitative and qualitative data research experience engaged in the collection, compilation, analysis, and interpretation of data. (Experience applied toward this requirement must include one year of experience performing duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to a Research Data Specialist II.)

Education

Incumbents must possess 12 semester or 18 quarter units course work in any combination of a data driven research-related field, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a research-related field. This must include at least one course in statistical methods; and

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree. Work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis by applicants who have the required units mentioned above.

Working Conditions

  • DSH-Sacramento is located at an 11 floor high rise building.
  • The majority of the essential functions of this position may be performed via telework and/or with flexible scheduling. Consistent with Policy Directive 5338, Telework may be considered with prior approval from management. If approved, incumbent is expected to provide in-office coverage on a rotational basis, and attend a variety of face to face meetings, and/or travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
  • Minimal travel (5%) may be required
