About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Tech Auto in our Communications Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will perform light maintenance for vehicles that enter the facility which includes conducting vehicle speed calibrations, decommissioning vehicles that have reached end of service life, and preparing vehicles that have been damaged beyond repair for surplus; assist with receiving of vehicles from across the Department, but also from a wide range of car dealerships and other state agencies; and complete state inspections, brake service, towing, repairs automotive, police, communication and other electronic equipment in Virginia State Police vehicles' and ensures that each vehicle received is properly equipped, washed/detailed and is fully functioning before issuance to assigned users throughout the Commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of safety principles related to law enforcement shop operations; of automotive repair techniques including mechanical and body repair, automotive systems, equipment installation, and electronic and police equipment; and of state inspection rules and regulations.
- Some knowledgeable of utilizing an asset management system to track program related assets and equipment and surplus property policies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work within a para-military organization, vendors, and other Commonwealth Agencies; to lift 50 pounds unassisted; and to travel as needed.
- Experience in automotive/mechanical and/or electronic equipment systems and repair.
- Ability to work during Agency or Governor declared emergency event is required.
- Virginia Operator's License required.
- Certification Virginia Operator's License required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Considerations
- Forklift experience is preferred.
- Virginia State Inspection certification preferred.
- ASE certification preferred.
