Job Summary
The Aviation Investigator serves as a key member of the Accident Investigation Division, performing critical and time-sensitive investigations. The incumbent utilizes expertise gained from various aviation backgrounds, including Commercial Pilot with Instrument Ratings, Aerospace Engineer, Air Traffic Controller, and more.
Main Responsibilities:
- Scrutinizes flight operations, avionics, and mechanical systems to identify potential risks and hazards.
- Conducts safety oversight of transportation practices and improves accident investigation procedures.
- Works closely with industry and government agencies to promote aviation safety.
- Represents FAA as a technical point of contact on projects and other activities.
- Synthesizes technical information into position papers and other written products.
Key Qualifications:
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13, in fields such as Airline Transport Pilot, Aerospace Engineer, Air Traffic Controller, or Aviation Safety Inspector.
- Experience investigating aviation accidents, incidents, malfunctions, or failures, with an emphasis on identifying risks and hazards.
- Influencing stakeholders by communicating technical topics to diverse audiences.
- Influencing policy changes through clear and concise communication.
