Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Accounting Officer (Specialist) in the Governmental Accounting Office will perform accounting tasks that require an understanding of accounting processes using various business systems. The incumbent is responsible for fund accounting duties, including analyzing appropriations and expenditures, preparing journal entries and Plan of Financial Adjustments (PFAs), and maintaining accurate accounting records through reconciliation reports. This role demands effective communication with program managers, control agencies, and division staff, alongside a strong ability to interpret financial data, solve problems, and ensure compliance with various accounting standards and regulations. Special Requirements

This position has telework, and its availability is dependent on the workload in the Section. As such, the incumbent may be required to work in the office full time and to limit vacation leave during the months of June through September to ensure fiscal year end responsibilities are met.

The ideal candidate for the Accounting Officer (Specialist) position should possess an understanding of accounting procedures and processes. Proficiency in using automated accounting software is essential, alongside a good understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and organizational capacity are crucial for success in this role. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a proven ability to work cooperatively in teams and with various internal and external parties.
