Under the direction of the Senior Engineering Geologist in the Groundwater Sustainability Plan Review Section (GSP) of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO), in the Executive Division, the incumbent performs a wide variety of water resource engineering work to support the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

This position is eligible to participate in a hybrid telework schedule currently requiring a minimum of two days in the office per week. Participation in telework is subject to the State of California’s, Department’s, and SGMO’s policies and supervisor approval.

The Sustainable Groundwater Management Office (SGMO) is responsible for overseeing groundwater management efforts, including implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), publishing California’s Groundwater - Bulletin 118, and serving as a statewide hub for groundwater data, information, communication, and assistance efforts to ensure the long-term reliability of California’s groundwater resources to support the State’s people, environment, agriculture, and economy.

2) strong writing skills; ability to review and provide critical analysis of complex studies and plans; able to convey complex technical information through concise technical writing and oral presentations
3) knowledge of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and DWR’s roles and responsibilities implementing the Act
4) academic and/or working knowledge of groundwater and water resources management including related regulatory programs and public policy; conducting complex water resources engineering geologist assessments; field experience including well installations and data collection
5) academic and/or working experience documenting results of data analyses and interpretations through technical writing; experience developing figures and Geographic Information System (GIS) maps to communicate information in reports or presentations
