Job Duties
The Psychiatric Technician II is responsible to facilitate individual and group programs through planned, spontaneous, structured and unstructured activities that are provided consistent with overall active treatment programming as well as consistent with the individual patient’s comprehensive treatment plan and nursing care plan. In addition, this position provides leadership, teaching and role modeling to other Direct Service Associate II who function under the working title of Psychiatric Technician I and performs direct nursing care duties. The position functions under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to follow written and oral instructions; some knowledge about major mental illnesses and nursing care of the hospitalized psychiatric patient. Ability to initiate and facilitate individual and group programming. Ability to work as a team member, give and receive effective feedback. Ability to read, write and speak in the English language. Ability to satisfactorily complete the Institute training program for Psychiatric Technician certification within the first six months of employment. Ability to maintain all required competencies including those designated for orientation, training and skill development and annual competencies. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and patients from varied backgrounds using effective interpersonal skills. Ability to recognize the need for and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment. Ability to document in legal records using narrative as well as checklist format.
This is an Evening Shift position (3:00 pm - 11:30 pm)
Additional Considerations
- Related education or experience, either personally or professionally, working with individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, or in the medical field
- Prefer some knowledge of program activities including recreation, leisure skills, communication, vocational, and educational programming
