Job Duties
Supervise maintenance and repair work on state vehicles and farm equipment at an Adult Institution. Supervises inmate work crew(s) assigned as auto shop helpers. Maintains all vehicle, farm equipment and heavy equipment and related equipment in compliance with institutional policy, procedures and regulations. Performs preventive maintenance using TMS computer system. Acts as motor pool buyer.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Knowledge of repairs and maintenance task on a wide variety of vehicles and trucks. Ability to supervise other employees and inmates. Extensive experience in the automotive and heavy equipment repairs. Walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, pull, lift, reach, turn, climb stairs and ladders; hear, see, write, count, read, speak, interpret policies; operate a motor vehicle and moving/motorized equipment. Read and interpret schematics and blueprints. Must use a computer and operate both hand and power tools. Must have good manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination. Extensive experience in automotive and equipment repair.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer supervisory experience. Prefer completion from vocational/technical school, completion of apprenticeship and/or sufficient on-the-job training (OJT) in trade activities. Prefer demonstrated knowledge of computer programs as related to maintenance operation (e.g. Preventative Maintenance Programs) and inventory control. Prefer valid CDL and VA state inspection license for automobiles.
