Job Duties

Directs activities of the centralized mail distribution center to ensure facility safety and security by receiving and inspecting all inmate incoming legal correspondence, books, and publications for contraband before forwarding items to the facilities for issuance to the inmate. Ensure the handling of all mail are within applicable federal, state, and departmental regulations and procedures. Develops, updates, and maintains all related documentation and reports. Investigates all suspicious and/or observations of crimes or violations of laws, rules, regulations, and policies and reports incidents to the Special Operations Drug Task Force Unit and/or Special Investigative Unit as outlined in DOC policy. Directs the work of the security mail screening staff: Corrections Intel Officer(s) and Corrections Canine Officer(s). Leads and counsel’s staff. Coordinate work schedules and assignments to ensure adequate staffing coverage. Contributes to administration of performance management systems for staff. Conducts ongoing inspections to maintain, security, sanitation, and good order of the distribution facility. Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent. Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification. Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement. Experience supervising corrections staff. Investigative or security related experiences. Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management. Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders. Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration. Ability to sufficiently receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions. Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Additional Considerations

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Gmail programs. Knowledge and experience with Evidence Based Practices.
