Job Duties

The Preparedness Grants Administrator is responsible for planning, distributing, and monitoring federal funding to localities, state agencies and nonprofits. This individual provides technical assistance and consultation to programs, offering guidance and training to grantees and emergency management professionals. They ensure compliance with grant rules and regulations through site visits and other forms of communication. Additionally, they develop resources, policies and procedures as needed to meet the requirements of specific grants.

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official EWP.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of grant management, accounting and business management, budget preparation procedures, and department administration.
  • Experience in analyzing and understanding grant guidelines and contacts, as well as preparing and monitoring budgets and fiscal actions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret policy and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range.
