Job Duties
The Department of Planning and Budget (DPB) advises the Governor, the Governor’s staff, and cabinet secretaries on fiscal, policy, program, and legislative issues involving state agencies. It is seeking a self-motivated, creative, and analytical individual to lead one of the agency’s budget divisions and manage a team of highly talented analysts in making budget and policy recommendations to the Governor.
Applicants who apply should be able to demonstrate their ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with critical deadlines concurrently. In addition to being a strong manager, leader, and motivator, applicants also should be capable of developing and writing high level original work products. They must also be able to: (1) demonstrate strong communication skills (both written and oral); (2) review multiple work products; and (3) provide the appropriate proofing and editing skills to produce high quality work ready for publication or presentation to key state leaders. The successful candidate must also be capable of teaching these same skills to staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Professional level training and experience in public administration, business administration, finance and/or accounting, planning, or government;
- Significant knowledge of and experience with governmental budgeting processes and practices, and other financial practices and policies of governmental entities;
- Significant experience in addressing complex policy, budget, and governmental agency operational issues;
- Significant knowledge of and experience with legislative processes;
- Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively with upper echelon government officials (e.g., Governor, cabinet secretaries, university presidents, agency heads, legislators); and
- Demonstrated skills in providing direction and leadership to a team of analysts.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in the financial or public policy fields.
- Familiarity with public safety, veteran, and emergency services-related issues.
