Gloucester Department of Social Services is seeking to fill an entry level position within the Benefit Programs Unit. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness of the unit.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Researching documents and databases
- Scanning in a variety of documents related to entitlement programs
- Read and interpret documents related to entitlement programs
- Organize and file documents so that the documents are accessible to staff
- Screen and assign applications to Benefit Programs staff
- Verify information needed to process applications
- Assist clients with completing applications and answering general questions regarding benefit programs
- Process returned mail
- Work with numerous staff requesting assistance and prioritizing work assignments
- Work both independently and cooperatively with a team
- Provides support to the Administrative Unit to include assisting with front desk duties
- Shelter duty – When activated by the County Administrator, must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter
Hiring Range: $40,538 (May be higher depending on qualifications and years of experience)
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a high school diploma
- The ability to provide customer service to the general public
- Operate a variety of automated office equipment to include a computer as well as calculator, fax/copier, and scanner
- Organize and maintain a paper file system
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Organize and prioritize own work schedule
- Accept direction and follow established procedures
- Make screening decisions based upon specific criteria
- Ability to complete basic math skills
- Read and interpret documents submitted by the customers
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Experience using Virginia Department of Social Services software to include VaCMS, SPIDeR and MMIS
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidential information
- Establish and maintain electronic case records
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling duties assigned by a supervisory team that requires multitasking.
