Job Summary:
The person in this role will be on charge of maintain, and improve the company’s horticultural products (ornamental plants) of Kelly Park and Junction Road locations. Designs, improves, and applies technical procedures to control temperature, light, humidity, water, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, etc. They bring innovations and perform experimental design to answer hard questions. The main goal of this role are to keep your greenhouse weed free, pests and disease under control, produce excellent quality plants, and build a foundation for future growth.
Job Description:
· Discusses and performs plant growing activities with Head Grower to plan for growing activities that are consistent with all aspects of plant quality and care; including but not limited to watering, fertilizing, pruning, spacing, pest control, light level, humidity percentage, temperature regime, and hormone levels.
· Identifies gaps and issues and gathers information around it to design proper experimental designs to address the issues.
· Optimizes our current growing procedures and develops growing procedures for new crops.
· Scouts the greenhouses for pests, disease, weed, growth condition, crop quality, etc. and reports issues, and takes proper actions to resolve them.
· Applies fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and hormones.
· Operates and maintains greenhouse equipment, irrigation systems, and chemical application tools.
· Maintain accurate records of crop production and experimental designs, including data collection, analysis, visualization, interpretation, and presentation.
Requirements
· BS, MS, or PhD in plant pathology, horticulture, agronomy, or other related fields.
· 5 years of experience in industry or academia with tangible results (such as patents, relevant quality publications, history of significant financial impacts on previous/current organizations, etc.).
· Ability to identify and solve problems.
· Ability to identify conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects, nutrition deficiency, etc.
· Strong background in experimental designs, data collection, data analysis, data interpretation, and data management.
· Clear communication skills.
· Excellent management skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
· Proactiveness and growth mindset.
· Adaptability and multi‐tasking; experience working in a fast-changing environment.
· Must have in-depth knowledge of the safe handling and application of chemicals such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.
· Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and temperature.
· Ability to lift 15‐50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds of force constantly to lift and move product. Ability to balance, reach and grasp while climbing on a step stool and/or ladder, stand for an extended period. Private Pesticide Applicator’s license or ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire.
REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time and in-person role, and it requires a minimum of 40‐hour work per week (Mon to Fri). Occasionally, the person might need to stay longer or work on weekends/holidays to perform tasks as needed. Sponsorship and relocations are not available.
