What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visiting Assistant Professor in Art and Architecture: Sculpture/3D Design position at Design Observer?
The Department of Art and Architecture at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Three-Dimensional Design to begin August 1, 2025. This is a full-time, one-year position with a teaching load of five to six courses per year. The appointment has the possibility for renewal contingent on successful annual review and ongoing curricular needs. Teaching responsibilities include introductory sculpture and three-dimensional design courses, electives in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise, and management of sculpture studios and equipment.
The Department of Art and Architecture offers a BA in studio art and a non-professional BA in architectural studies. Both degrees feature a curricular emphasis on conceptual thinking and the design process as a method of inquiry. Advanced studios, Honors Projects, and Independent Studies in studio art and architectural studies offer opportunities for students to explore specific interests in sculpture and design.
We welcome candidates from all sculpture and 3D design backgrounds with a commitment to student-centered practices and an equitable and inclusive classroom. While the area of expertise is open, candidates whose creative practices and teaching represent a wide array of sculpture and 3D design practices are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant must demonstrate skill in developing and delivering course content that encourages creative problem solving, critical thinking, active learning, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
