The Measurement Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of measurement equipment used in the production and transportation of oil and gas. This role ensures accurate and reliable measurement of hydrocarbons to meet regulatory, contractual, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, calibrate, and maintain gas and liquid measurement equipment (e.g., flow meters, gas chromatographs, chart recorders, transducers, EFM/SCADA systems)
- Perform routine meter calibrations using provers and other standardized procedures
- Conduct data analysis and verify measurement accuracy for production and custody transfer
- Troubleshoot and repair measurement systems and electronic instrumentation
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies
- Maintain proper documentation of meter calibrations, maintenance, and inspections
- Interface with SCADA systems and ensure real-time data accuracy and communication
- Assist in audits and regulatory inspections as needed
- Communicate with operations, engineering, and third parties regarding measurement issues
- Travel to field sites regularly and respond to measurement emergencies or callouts
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred
- 2 years of relevant field experience in oil & gas measurement systems
- Familiarity with API, AGA, and DOT measurement standards
- Strong understanding of flow measurement principles and instrumentation
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of electronic and pneumatic devices
- Knowledge of EFM systems (e.g., ABB TotalFlow, Emerson/Roc, FlowBoss3000, etc.) and related software
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, field data capture systems)
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and manage a field schedule
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to remote sites
- Experience with SCADA/PLC systems and remote telemetry
- DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) certified
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., BLM, PHMSA)
