Friendship House, a faith-based non-profit organization under the American Baptist Home Mission Societies, located in Hamtramck.
Friendship House serves as a compassionate ministry, strengthening families through community connections and providing essential services to residents, such as food assistance, to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Position: Food Pantry Coordinator
Pay:$17.50-20/hr, depending on experience and skill set
Work Hours:
- Monday: 10 AM – 3 PM (5 hours)
- Tuesday: 10 AM – 4 PM (6 hours)
- Wednesday: 8 AM – 12 PM (4 hours- Every other Wednesday)
- Thursday: 10 AM – 4 PM (6 hours)
- Friday: 10 AM – 3 PM (5 hours)
- Saturday: 8 AM – 12 PM (4 hours)
- Must be able to adjust work hours based on agency needs, including some weekends and evenings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Weigh all products incoming and outgoing, including spoilage.
- Maintain adequate inventory, adhering to balanced dietary and Nutrition policy, USDA guidelines.
- Accurately enter data into the Link to Feed program and generate monthly reports for the Executive Director.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and Office Manager for food purchases.
- Determine daily food distribution and prepare accordingly.
- Ensure FIFO and USDA food safety guidelines are followed.
- Train and supervise staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis, conduct Monthly volunteer engagement, and orientation.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and log volunteer hours, collect volunteer engagement data report to E.D
- Sort food, stock shelves, and manage refrigeration and freezing needs.
- Maintain communication with vendors and agency partners.
- Research alternative food sources, prioritizing healthful options.
- Maintain warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, weight scales, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Collect and report data from in-kind donors, Report to Office Administrator
- Keep updated food handler's certification for self and pertinent staff/volunteers.
- Implement food-nutriton related programs and monitor volunteer participation.
- Reconcile quarterly reports with the Executive Director.
- Provide referrals and information to “out-of-area” clients, provide pantry information and connect clients with wrap around services
- Ensure accurate scheduling of volunteers and manage intern and corporate volunteers for volunteer engagement activities and events
- Demonstrate commitment to quality in all work-related activities.
- Make community contacts to procure new food sources.
- Maintain a pleasant and helpful attitude towards recipients, volunteers, partners and staff
- Stay within budget for food purchases.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Bilingual in English and Bangla preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, type, and view a computer screen for long periods.
- Ability to lift a maximum of 45 lbs.
