Position Summary

The Wayne County Food Pantry Program Manager is responsible for the oversight of the Center for Works of Mercy and SW Detroit pantry operations. This includes but is not limited to oversight of food bank purchases and donated food, health and safety requirements and management of the food pantry. This position is responsible for recruiting, scheduling and coordinating volunteers.

Reports to: Director of Food Programs

Supervises: Food pantry volunteers

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma/GED required. Associates degree/some college with equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Social services or ministry experience with underserved populations preferred.
  • Background in food handling and distribution a plus.
  • Must have familiarity with inventory control procedures and experience handling perishable products.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both in English and Spanish; Bi-lingual is a plus.
  • Complete food safety/sanitation training within 120 days from hire.
  • Knowledge of food safety management and inventory control.
  • Organization/time management/planning skills to include effective multi-tasking.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
  • Successful completion of initial and on-going employment screens, including, but not limited to criminal background, sex offender, drug screen, OIG, valid Michigan driver’s license, abuse and neglect and vehicle record check as required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train and schedule pantry volunteers; Provide support to pantry volunteers as needed.
  • Place food orders and make additional purchases from partner agencies as needed.
  • Review orders and invoices to ensure that CCSEM has received items and is invoiced properly.
  • In collaboration with the Accounting Department, ensure payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Oversee stock and supplies control and management, including rotation of foods near expiration.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve safety, service and other operational problems in collaboration with Administration where needed.
  • Maintain the physical condition of the food pantry by organizing cleanings, planning physical layouts of stock, and arranging for any needed repairs in collaboration with the Director of Food Programs
  • Responsible for maintaining food pantry in full compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local regulatory safety and health requirements.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all churches, Catholic parishes, community service providers and volunteer groups.
  • Adhere to the Mission, Values and Vision of CCSEM; and uphold the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Assist with additional, reasonable responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Food Programs

Work Environment, Physical Demands & Travel:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to lift, move and carry up to 50 lbs., to stand for up to 2 hours at a time, and able to walk up and down stairs while carrying up to 25 lbs. Position Classification, Type & Expected Hours of Work:

Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week, hourly, non- exempt position. Days and hours of work include but are not limited to the hours of the Center for the Works of Mercy and Southwest Detroit pantries. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required.

Pay: $19.24/hour
