Detroit Lakes Public Schools is seeking a 7-12 Health, Physical Education, DAPE Teacher (1.0 FTE)
Qualifications
- Current MN teaching license in Physical Education, Health, and DAPE (preferred)
- Experience with teaming preferred
- Experience and/or professional development with career academies is strongly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work and lead positively and constructively within teacher teams
Key tasks and responsibilities
a. Deliver engaging classroom instruction in physical education; implement lesson plans on instructional units; develop and determine methods, approaches and instructional units; maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
b. Assess and evaluate student performance against lesson plans; determine the need for re-instruction and reassessment; reinforce information previously taught in the classroom; determine grades for reporting purposes; monitor student performance and behaviors and determine how to approach bad behaviors.
c. Aid in the implementation of the Academy Model in grades 9-12 by participating on a pathway team and teaching pathway courses in health sciences and/or human service.
d. Collaborate with colleagues using the BARR (Building Assets Reducing Risks) model to help all students have success at DLMS/DLHS.
e. Develop and plan instructional activities; develop and implement lesson plans personalized for individual student needs; assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs); implement student assessments and evaluate results; determine assessment process for instructional units; research topics and materials designed to improve instructional presentations.
f. Prepare for substitute teachers; communicate with parents and participate in parent/student conferences; participate in the mentoring program and evaluation process.
g. Participate in meetings (building staff meetings, pathway meetings, BARR meetings, staff development, open house/orientation) as necessary or required; attend professional development activities.
Applicants must have a current Minnesota teaching license. We are looking for a person who can communicate well with students, teaching staff, administration, and other support staff. Proven collaboration with multiple stakeholders is a must.
