The Host is the first point of contact for Basecamp visitors. This position is responsible for making sure that visitors’ experiences start in the best way possible, and is the frontline for operational organization. The Host tracks table occupancy, seats guests, and assists them with the QR ordering process and takeout orders. This position also provides customers with merchandise items upon request and may assist servers, bussers, and food runners when necessary. This position is vital for the Front of House operation to run smoothly and maintains the pacing for any given shift.
The Busser maintains cleanliness in the Front of House to ensure efficient and quality experiences for visitors. The Busser works alongside servers and hosting staff to determine the order in which they operate and provide attention. This position’s duties are conducted autonomously, although there’s prioritized direction provided from other employees on the Front of House team. This position’s scope is not broad in nature, but reliability is critical. This position assists the Front of House operation in running smoothly and efficiently.
The Food Runner helps our Front of House team to ensure food orders are prepared & garnished correctly, and delivered to the correct tables. The Food Runner ensures that all to-go food is bagged up correctly for guests and that guests have everything they need and ordered before they begin eating. The Food Runner stocks condiments, sauces, to-go containers, and more. This position is responsible for keeping the window, counters, and hand sink cleaned and organized and is also the Front of House POC to our kitchen team. This position requires the individual to be organized and level-headed to ensure smooth and efficient lunch and dinner services.
Daily Duties, Functions, Responsibilities
Host: Answer telephones. Greet customers as they arrive and depart restaurant. Assist guests with QR code introduction. Maintain current knowledge of food and beverage menu items. Take and process takeout orders. Oversee cleanliness of front desk, menus, windows, and restrooms. Responsible for knowing Devils Backbone FAQs. Able to answer guest inquiries. Know all table numbers. Take wait list additions and maintain waitlist system. Manage VIP Special Request info. Must be able to make proper decisions as where to seat guests. Escort guests to tables. Convey all guest concerns to Manager on Duty (MOD). Assist food runners, bussers, and servers when necessary. Other duties as assigned.
Busser: Know all table numbers. Convey all guest concerns at once to the MOD. Clean and set tables to restaurant standards. Keep floor areas clean to restaurant standards. Assist with silverware rolling and water bottle filling. Assist in maintaining restroom cleanliness. Assists host, food runner, or server when necessary. Complete all assigned side work tasks. Work in a safe and controlled manner. Responsible for safety and personal hygiene standards at all times. Responsible for compliance and understanding of all policies set forth by DBBC. Other duties as assigned.
Food Runner: Know all the table numbers. Delivers food efficiently and ensures the guests receive everything they need upon delivery. Is the POC for our kitchen team. Stocks all condiments, sauces, to-go containers, etc. Assists the host, servers, and bussers when necessary. Complete all assigned side work tasks. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Intermediate level experience in customer service positions, preferably in food and beverage service.
· Ability to manage personal responsibilities in a high volume, fast-paced working environment
· Ability to operate basic office equipment.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Education and Experience
· Minimum one year in a customer service position.
· High-volume experience preferred.
· Virginia Drivers License
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts
· Regular contacts are made with individuals from within the Back of House and Front of House divisions
· Communication is usually cooperative in nature, but the ability to deal tactfully with a variety of visitors/individuals is sometimes necessary.
· Work takes place in a loud environment for long periods.
· Lifting up to 50-pounds occasionally is necessary.
· Conducts work in a standing position; job requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting.
