POSITION SUMMARY:
The Legal Assistant will assist Devon’s General Counsel with administrative, operational and organization tasks assigned by Devon’s General Counsel and Inland’s legal department.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates highest standards of personal and professional integrity, adheres to company’s policies and procedures, and complies with applicable laws, government rules and regulations.
- Basic legal research related to self-storage lien laws and other statutes that impact the daily management and development of self-storage facilities.
- Managing the flow of communications between the operations team and the legal department.
- Creating and maintaining a database of legal correspondence and claims by state and subject matter.
- Monitoring deadlines and compliance status with municipal and state regulatory agencies for properties under management, including self-storage rental agreements, foreclosure checklists and business licenses.
- Scanning, organizing, and storing digital records related to the operations of the properties under management, ensuring accuracy and validity of information.
- Responding to tenant and municipal inquiries, including assembling deliverables in response to subpoena requests and other pre-& post-litigation matters.
- Maintaining an updated contact list for properties under management.
- Attending small claims hearings (as may be required from time to time).
- Monitoring outside legal expenses and preparing property site allocations.
- Fulfill other tasks and duties as may be assigned by Devon’s General Counsel.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in business management or real estate preferred.
- 3-5 years of related experience with an in-house law department or real estate management company required.
- Legal Assistant certification preferred.
- Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and Excel
- Ability to problem solve and conflict resolutions skills
- No travel is required for this position.
- This position requires the ability to see clearly at a distance of 20 inches or less to read documents and/or view computer screen.
- This position requires the ability to hear and talk and to communicate in person and via phone on a daily basis.
- This position requires the ability to use hands/fingers to enter, retrieve and/or manipulate data using a computer keyboard.
