POSITION SUMMARY:
The Compliance Specialist will work under the direction of Devon’s General Counsel to support the oversight and administration of the company’s strategic plan, ensuring cross-department compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates highest standards of personal and professional integrity, adheres to company’s policies and procedures, and complies with applicable laws, government rules and regulations.
- Evaluating existing company procedures to ensure compliance with internal company policies, the requirements of regulatory agencies, and contractual commitments with outside vendors.
- Establishing and executing policies and procedures to ensure overall compliance objectives are achieved.
- Coordinating and tracking contract renewals and amendments in collaboration with department directors and company protocols, including coordinating with key stakeholders to resolve contractual issues.
- Collaborating with cross-department leadership to identify and address compliance needs, including monitoring department timelines and goals to ensure deadlines and contractual obligations are satisfied.
- Ensuring that properties under management operate consistently, ethically, and in full compliance with all federal, state, and city regulations, including licensing and other municipal requirements.
- Assisting with and managing incident claims at the properties under management, including interfacing with insurance companies, vendors, self-storage tenants, investors, and the company's executive leadership.
- General office work, including assisting co-workers as needed.
- Maintaining a high level of professionalism and productivity.
- Serving as a liaison between Devon’s General Counsel and other company departments.
- Fulfill other tasks and duties as may be assigned by Devon’s General Counsel.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education:
- This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Business, Risk Management or other relevant field or equivalent professional knowledge and/or work experience.
- This position requires at least 3 years of prior professional experience in Real Estate Management or Mortgage Loan Processing.
- 3-5 years of experience with a Real Estate Management Company, which includes working in an administrative capacity alongside accounting, human resources, sales, and operational level professionals preferred.
- No licenses are required for this role.
- Intermediate skills in MS Office and Excel
- Strong ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to advocate persuasively and firmly in person and by correspondence.
- Ability to be diplomatic, clear, build trust, and establish connections.
- Must have the ability to manage projects and work effectively with others.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, diverse environment and communicate in a professional and clear manner.
Working Conditions:
- No travel is required for this position.
- This position requires the ability to see clearly at a distance of 20 inches or less to read documents and/or view computer screen.
- This position requires the ability to hear and talk and to communicate in person and via phone on a daily basis.
- This position requires the ability to use hands/fingers to enter, retrieve and/or manipulate data using a computer keyboard.
