Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and qualified Push Boat Captain to oversee the operation of a push boat equipped with a 900 HP to 2600 HP engine. The Captain will be responsible for the safe and efficient navigation of the vessel, ensuring smooth operations in pushing and towing tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, maritime skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and navigate a push boat with a 900 HP to 2600 HP engine.
- Execute push and tow operations with various barges, vessels, or other floating structures, ensuring proper alignment and positioning.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal maritime regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
- Maintain detailed logs of all operations, including push/tow activities, engine performance, and crew duties.
- Supervise and lead the push boat crew, ensuring effective teamwork and adherence to company policies.
- Monitor weather and water conditions, making adjustments as necessary for safe operations.
- Perform regular inspections of the push boat and its equipment, including the propulsion and towing systems, to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
- Maintain communication with other vessels, shore operations, and relevant personnel to ensure coordination and safety.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed, including assisting in rescue or salvage operations.
- Provide training and guidance to crew members in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
Qualifications:
- Valid USCG Captain's License (or equivalent certification).
- Master of Towing license or near coastal and Western rivers.
- Proven experience operating push boats with engines ranging from 900 HP to 2600 HP.
- Demonstrated ability in towing and pushing operations.
- Strong knowledge of maritime safety practices, regulations, and operational standards.
- Leadership and supervisory experience, including managing crew operations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform routine vessel maintenance.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
- Valid medical certification for maritime roles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with specific types of barges, floating structures, or specialized push boat operations.
- Experience in heavy-duty towing or complex push operations in challenging environments.
- Advanced knowledge of vessel maintenance and repair.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in diverse and often physically demanding conditions.
