Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation: Using abrasive blasting techniques, typically with sand or other materials, to clean and prepare metal surfaces for painting or coating.
- High-Pressure Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining equipment like blast pots, hoses, and nozzles to ensure effective blasting.
- Safety Compliance: Following strict safety protocols due to the hazardous environment of offshore work, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following guidelines for working with chemicals and high-pressure equipment.
- Coating Application Assistance: Assisting with the application of protective coatings after the surface has been properly prepared.
- Environmental Protection: Ensuring that work practices minimize the environmental impact, such as controlling dust and debris from the blasting process.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Prior experience with abrasive blasting techniques, especially in offshore or industrial environments.
- Certifications: Often, certifications in safety practices (e.g., HSE, offshore survival, TWIC Card, or paint blasting certifications) is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: The ability to work in challenging conditions, including high altitudes or confined spaces.
- Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of the different types of abrasives and coatings used in the industry.
