POSITION SUMMARY:
The Data Coordinator for Transplant Services is responsible clinical data abstraction, design, capture, management, querying and reporting. The data coordinator will effectively communicate and coordinate the flow of information among medical, ancillary, nursing, financial and other staff. The data coordinator will develop and maintain transplant statistical data and perform outcome monitoring in coordination with the Quality Director for the transplant department. The data coordinator assists in maintaining compliance with requirements of external agencies in the area of quality and accreditation surveys/inspections, specifically those related to Transplant, The Joint Commission, CMS, UNOS, and the ESRD Network.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or other relevant clinical discipline required (business administration, business management, health care administration, public health or a related field);
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Care, Public Health or Business Administration preferred.
- Project management experience
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and quantitative skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff, peers, and other customer.
- Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, clinical documentation systems.
- Experience in quality assurance and performance improvement activities preferred

Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and implement strategies for the inpatient and outpatient data as it relates to the transplant process and data capture
Assures continuous tracking of quality data in the transplant databases, monitors ongoing data integrity processes
Coordinates development and preparation of quality report cards/scorecards for the Abdominal Organ Transplant Program
Review clinical data for completeness and accuracy
Responsible for data reporting to all outside regulatory and research agencies for transplant program
Reviews medical records, including reviews of documentation required for UNOS and CMS. Collates and submits data related to these reviews to the leadership team and hospital departments as requested.
- Participate with management to develop and apply standard of data storage, manipulation and reporting
Maintains current knowledge of requirements related to CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission, and UNOS.
Participate in data entry and abstraction of data from clinical database for analysis and research, including knowledge and application of pertinent computer programs
Knowledge and application of pertinent computer programs, internal applications, OTTR, and others, national registry and reporting applications, UNOS, SRTR
Responsible for supporting management staff to achieve and maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance within Transplant Services. Assists in the preparation of action plans.
Prepares and maintains materials/documents used for surveys by CMS/NC Dept of Health for transplant centers and for Joint Commission.
Coordinates preparation of UNOS reports including annual personnel report, TIEDI
Monitors and tracks compliance with UNOS requirements for data submission. Alerts the management team if there is not full compliance with the requirements.

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).
