Description:
It is the responsibility of the Nurse Navigator to work collaboratively with the technologists, clerical, administrative, and physician staff to provide high-quality patient care and courteous and prompt services to patients and referring physicians. The Nurse Navigator must demonstrate compassion and empathy while explaining treatment plans to emotional patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Facilitate the patient experience by answering patients’ breast health questions, assisting Radiologists with providing pre-procedure instructions, and monitoring post-procedure care. Utilize AIDET Principles in all patient and provider encounters.
2. Coordinate patient treatment plan with multidisciplinary team by notifying patients of biopsy results, coordinating surgical referrals, facilitating communication between patients, families, physicians, and care team, reviewing, updating, and attending weekly breast cancer conference meetings, and managing an electronic biopsy database.
3. Assess and care for patients with complications and concerns following breast procedures. Assist staff in caring for patients with adverse events, reactions, or difficulties with IV placement.
4. Performing computer operations including electronic medical record system, spreadsheet databases, phone, fax, scanner, copier, and email.
5. Maintaining professional and technical knowledge and licensure through educational workshops, professional publications, and societies, establishing personal networks, and demonstrating knowledge of current radiology and nursing protocols.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma. Graduate of accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program or Board Certified Registered Nursing Program Certification in good standing with the Board of Nursing
Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as an LPN and/or RN.
Knowledge: Consistently model AIDET principles, service excellence, and service recovery. Consistently demonstrate commitment to safe practices while following all OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
Skills: Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Email, and ability to comprehend and utilize Electronic Medical Record Systems and PACS Systems. Use of medical equipment, testing and measuring devices, and office equipment. Peripheral IV placement. Basic monitoring of patients during adverse events. Effective, professional, empathetic communication skills are required. Functions effectively under stressful and difficult situations. Resilient and flexible in a changing environment.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) orRegistered Nurse (RN) licensed and in good standing by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Basic Life Support (BLS)
Physical requirements: The flow of work and character of duties involve remaining in a seated stationary position and performing keyboard operations constantly; communicating with internal and external stakeholders constantly; and moving/traversing about the office or remaining in an upright stationary position on an occasional basis. Additionally, the person in this role may seldom climb stairs or position oneself as necessary to access resources pertinent to one’s desk/computer/files. Visual attention is necessary because frequent near acuity for computer usage is required and far acuity is occasionally needed to assist with following PowerPoint presentations. Intermittently, the ability to distinguish color is warranted. The person in this role needs to be able to detect smells for safety-related purposes on occasion. The position also requires an individual to be able to transport a laptop computer, equipment and files weighing approximately 10-15 lbs
