Position Overview :

This role requires experience working with animals in the non-profit business segment, background in animal welfare, strong leadership skills, and the ability to engage and inspire others to support the mission of Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas (DDRTX).

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of DDRTX, responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and programmatic leadership of the organization. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, stakeholders, and community partners to fulfill the mission of DDRTX and ensure its sustainability and growth.

This is a part-time, salaried position (approximately 20-25 hours a week).

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership and Management :

Provide visionary leadership to DDRTX, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.

Supervise and support staff of 3 (administrative assistant, operations assistant & marketing manager), ensuring effective team dynamics and professional development opportunities.

Oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff.

Work alongside DDRTX's Operations Manager and act as final decision-maker for special circumstances, including specialized surgery options and decisions around euthanasia, when ethically necessary.

Strategic and Financial Development

Lead the development and implementation of DDRTX's strategic and financial plans, ensuring alignment with mission and goals.

Monitor and evaluate progress toward strategic objectives and adjust plans as necessary.

With guidance from the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring sound fiscal practices and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Program Development and Evaluation :

Ensure DDRTX programs align with the organization's vision, mission, and values and are delivered with high quality and positive impact.

Board Relations :

The Executive Director serves as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff, keeping the Board informed of organizational activities, challenges, and opportunities.

Community Engagement :

Represent DDRTX in the community, building relationships with stakeholders, partners, local government entities, and other rescue organizations.

Advocacy and Policy :

Advocate DDRTX's mission and the needs of the community at local and state levels. This is done via :

o Program Development : Provide direction and oversite on new and existing programming that support the mission of DDRTX.

o Community Engagement : Build partnerships with local businesses, other nonprofits, and community organizations to expand outreach and support for the mission of DDRTX.

o Financial Oversight : Work with Board Treasurer to manage DDRTX's budget, ensuring that funds are used efficiently and effectively. Regularly report on financial status to the Board of Directors.

o Compliance and Governance : Ensure DDRTX complies with all relevant laws and regulations. Work with the Board of Directors to develop policies and procedures that support the mission.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Minimum of 3 years of management experience in an animal non-profit organization.

Working knowledge of animal rescue operations and animal welfare laws.

Proven track record in fundraising and financial management.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Directors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

Proficiency in the following software programs :

o Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams)

o Zoom (or other virtual meeting programs)

Working Conditions :

This is a home-based, remote position. Candidate must reside within the San Antonio / Austin / Greater Hill Country area.

This position requires flexibility in working hours. Off-hour phone calls from veterinary offices and occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate meetings and events to be expected.

Travel within San Antonio and Austin areas may be required for community engagement and fundraising activities.
