The Construction Project Estimator will be responsible for estimating costs and preparing comprehensive bids for electrical construction projects, with a focus on large commercial and industrial projects. This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive project estimates that align with project goals and budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and contracts to prepare accurate and detailed estimates for electrical construction projects.
- Collaborate with the project management team, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements, scope, and timelines.
- Develop and maintain detailed cost databases for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to ensure accurate bidding.
- Perform take-offs and quantity surveys from construction documents to determine material and labor needs.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Create cost estimates for electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, security systems, and HVAC controls for large commercial and industrial projects.
- Analyze project risks and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals, including pricing, scope of work, project schedules, and terms and conditions.
- Assist with the review of project specifications, drawings, and contracts to ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
- Work closely with the project team to provide post-bid support, including clarifications, value engineering, and change order pricing.
- Stay updated on industry trends, code changes, and technological advancements to ensure accurate estimates and competitive bids.
- Monitor and track project costs during the construction phase to identify any variances from the initial estimate and assist with cost control measures.
- Provide recommendations for project cost improvements, scope adjustments, and value engineering options.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical construction estimating, with a focus on large commercial and industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, and construction methods for commercial and industrial applications.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Accubid, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Experience with performing material take-offs and quantity surveys for electrical construction projects.
- Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (NEC, local codes).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to assess costs accurately and competitively.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver high-quality estimates on time.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- LEED certification, PMP, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
