Helper/Laborer

As a Garbage Truck Helper at Diamondback Disposal, you’ll be joining the best locally owned disposal team in the region. We are currently looking for a safety conscious Helper to join our quickly growing team in East Liverpool, Ohio on our residential and commercial routes. In this position you will safely operate heavy-duty trucks, collect residential household and commercial waste, and assist our drivers on weekly routes.

What you’ll be doing (Fundamental Duties):
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following tasks.

• Ability to safely operate a garbage truck (excluding driving) on specified routes to collect solid waste.
• Help the driver collect the trash and dispose of it safely.
• Ability to read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the dispatcher.
• Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
• Cleans behind the compactor blade with shovel and hoe when directed. Sprays and cleans the hopper and truck at the end of each shift or as needed.
• Performs a variety of manual duties in the clean-up of scattered refuse; Cleans up the area around accidental waste spills and ensures customers containers are replaced properly.
• Ability to perform a physically demanding job, loading and unloading, at times with no helpers.
• Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.
• Must comply with all ANSI (American National Standards Institute), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and company safety policies including Diamondback Disposal policies and procedures.
• Courteous interaction with our customers.
• Reports any safety or customer service related issues to driver and supervisor, immediately.
• Assists other routes as needed to complete daily work.
• Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

What you need (Minimum Requirements):

• High School Diploma or GED
• Waste experience preferred, but not required
• At least 18 years or older

Physical requirements:

• Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
• Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle 100 times a day.
• Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks such as moving mechanical parts, which require following basic safety precautions.
• The employee is exposed to outside weather, including frequent wet and/or humid conditions, as well as exposure to fumes and vibration.
• Ability to ride on the outside of the truck while servicing residential customers in low MPH areas.

Travel requirements:

This position requires riding with one of our Commercial Truck Drivers, following predetermined routes. No overnight or extended travel required.
