Vice President of Procurement

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Location: Corporate Office

We are looking for a Vice President of Procurement to lead our Perishable and Non-Perishable Category
Management teams, with responsibility for overall procurement and merchandising strategies, and direct
P&L responsibility. They place a keen focus on growing sales and net profit, while continually seeking to
improve the modern customer experience. They understand that our product selection and merchandising are
differentiators, and are willing to take risks and place strong emphasis on developing innovative strategies to
move the business forward. This person is a resilient people leader, a strategic communicator, a superior
negotiator and they understand the importance of making decisions based on data, intuition and experience.

success:

Driving operational excellence in process efficiency and efficacy in purchasing, pricing, promotions,
assortment analysis, sales and inventory management
  • Lead and inspire through exceptional communication of the organization's strategic vision and goals,
clarifying deliverables and ensuring teams are working collaboratively towards fulfilling the vision
  • Proactively explore new areas of opportunity to transform Dierbergs to a future ready organization and
build teams, processes and offerings that enable omni-channel retail
  • Oversee procurement initiatives from conception to completion and drive collaborative change throughout
the organization
  • Utilize keen sense of ever-shifting market trends, data and customer insights to inform future purchasing
decisions, merchandising and pricing strategies, and omnichannel experience investments to drive results

Value Creation & Category Optimization
  • Infuse digital transformation and data capabilities to drive decision making with a view on the future focus
of the business, innovation and creativity, and efficiency improvements
  • Assess price, demand, and assortment strategies to create additional value creation opportunities
  • Evaluate buying and merchandising opportunities to maximize sales and profitability while ensuring
financial goals are met or exceeded for in store and third-party ecommerce partnerships
  • Partner with team and vendors to ensure omni-channel product marketing and engagement strategies are
successfully executed; recalibrate approach as needed to adjust to rapidly changing environment

Accelerating adoption of digital and analytics-based decision making
  • Share relevant data insights to build transparency, while leveraging spend analytics to build competitive
advantage
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive customer-centric changes through data-driven experimentation
& deep, analytical insights
  • Adopt and implement agile methods to enable teams to quickly adapt to market conditions
  • Utilize data to evaluate opportunities and recommend strategies for overall ordering efficacy
  • Lead team through implementation and training of new data tools (or sources) to better understand
customer behavior, enhance category intelligence and identify new vendor engagement opportunities

Cultivating new and existing supplier partnerships through vendor management/relations, promotional
marketing fund strategy & execution
  • Build and maintain relationships with store and operations teams to better understand the demands of the
business and to assure strategies are being fully executed
  • Encourage procurement team to take calculated risks and identify enhanced methods of driving category
performance through developing new partnerships and strengthening existing supplier relationships

Leading and Inspiring teams
  • Lead by example. Foster a work environment that embodies the core values of Dierbergs, excellence in
cross functional collaboration, and serve as a champion for a diverse and inclusive team environment
  • Communicate complex situations into clear presentations for senior leadership, and deliver level appropriate presentations with agility and executive presence

About you
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience with a strong mix of category management and merchandising
  • Retail category management expertise with exposure to CPG environments preferred
  • 7 years of people management experience required including experience leading people managers
  • Possesses strong financial and analytical skills for conducting benchmarking, market research, data
analytics, business case development, and reporting
  • Bachelor's degree is required; advanced degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and enhancing business processes and systems to drive business
results
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and lead change in a fast-paced environment
