Position Summary:
The Direct Access Coordinator plays a vital role in facilitating seamless and efficient scheduling for patients referred for direct access procedures such as colonoscopies and endoscopies. This position serves as a key liaison between patients, referring providers, and internal departments, ensuring timely communication, accurate documentation, and excellent customer service throughout the pre-procedure process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and schedule direct access procedures without requiring an initial consult visit, based on established clinical protocols.
- Review referrals, intake forms, and medical histories to ensure appropriateness for direct access scheduling.
- Serve as a main point of contact for patients and referring offices for all questions related to direct access procedures.
- Communicate preparation instructions, follow-up requirements, and necessary documentation to patients.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and administrative teams to confirm availability and maintain smooth scheduling operations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and internal standards for patient privacy and care coordination.
- Assist with insurance verification and authorization when needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical office, preferably in gastroenterology or a specialty clinic.
- Familiarity with scheduling systems, EMRs, and insurance procedures.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
