Position: Project Engineer
Design the plumbing and refrigeration circuits for custom chillers. Design work for each application includes the design of a plumbing and refrigerant system, the determination of key component requirements, the specifications of those components to purchase or to design, and generation of the plumbing and refrigerant circuit schematics and related documentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Collaborate with the customers and DTS Sales to define product requirements & specifications
· Develop custom chiller system solutions
· Select key refrigeration & plumbing components for the plumbing and refrigeration systems that will meet the customer’s requirements
· Create or direct the creation of all product-related design documentation (engineering drawings, 3D Models, End of Line Test Plans, etc).
· Identify critical and/or long-lead components and work with purchasing to establish part delivery times.
· Work closely with R&D technicians and Manufacturing during prototype or production builds; hands-on work required at times. Use of basic hand tools for plumbing, etc.
· Provide status reports and present as required
· Implement process improvements and standardization around product designs and platforms, where appropriate.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aeronautical Engineering is preferred
· 2 Years of experience in design of mechanical systems, preferably refrigeration and/or thermo-fluid systems is preferable (7 years without a degree)
· Strong understanding of thermal fluid systems, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics
· Experience with HVAC/Refrigeration systems and/or with fluid control/heat transfer systems is highly desirable.
· Experience in 2D or 3D CAD is required; SolidWorks experience preferred
· Knowledge of applicable product safety certifications such as UL, CE, CSA, etc. preferred.
· Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability in a low volume, high mix industry is preferred
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Detail-oriented with strong analytical and planning skills
· Proactive thinker
· Highly motivated and passionate about engineering
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit for long periods of time
· Must be able to stand, bend, lift and move intermittently; move equipment and supplies as necessary for job function
· Ability to withstand extended exposure to a computer monitor, which may at times be straining on the eyes.

Work Environment
Primarily works in a well-lit, temperature-controlled office in a fast-paced changing organization. Occasional exposure to the manufacturing area with moderate noise, dust, seasonal heat and cold.
