Tribal Housing Research

Duty Schedule:

Between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, occasional travel and hours after hours.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The Tribal Housing Research Coordinator is responsible for supporting research efforts focused on housing challenges within tribal communities while working on a flexible schedule. This role involves gathering and analyzing data, assisting with policy development, and collaborating with key stakeholders to support culturally relevant and sustainable housing solutions.

  1. Research & Data Management:
    1. Conduct research on tribal housing policies, funding opportunities, and community needs.
    2. Collect, analyze, and manage housing-related data, including surveys and demographic trends.
    3. Assist in preparing research reports, briefs, and presentations.
  2. Community Engagement & Outreach:
    1. Work with tribal members, housing authorities, and community organizations to gather input.
    2. Assist in planning and facilitating community meetings, workshops, and surveys.
    3. Ensure that research efforts reflect the cultural values and needs of the tribal community.
  3. Policy & Program Support:
    1. Analyze tribal, state, and federal housing policies such as NAHASDA.
    2. Provide recommendations to support housing development and policy changes.
    3. Assist in drafting reports for tribal leadership and grant applications.
  4. Project Coordination:
    1. Support the planning and execution of housing research projects within defined timelines.
    2. Track project deliverables and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
    3. Collaborate with stakeholders to advance housing initiatives and strategies.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    1. Maintain project documentation and research records.
    2. Assist in scheduling meetings and coordinating communications with stakeholders.
    3. Prepare reports and summaries for internal and external distribution.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and research tools.
  • 1-3 years' experience in research.
  • 1-3 experience working with tribal nations and tribal governments.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, and related field.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in research synthesis, including writing memos and research briefs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
  • Some familiarity with tribal housing policies, funding sources, and community development principles.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment.

Skills:

  • Successfully completing projects efficiently and on time;
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and ability to learn other software that may be applicable.
  • Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with experience in data collection and report writing.

Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, and initiative and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work on a team, conduct collaborative research, and deal effectively and courteously with supervisors, peers, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research in a team environment or individually.
  • Ability to operate flexibly and consistently.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Work is performed in an office setting:
    • To include but not limited to the use of personal computer, to enter, retrieve, and analyze data;
  • Ability to attend and participate in meetings and trainings.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to internal and external customers via multimedia.
  • Ability to maintain confidentially.
  • Ability to travel and use a College vehicle is required.
  • Remote or hybrid work options, depending on employer requirements.

Other Requirement(s):

  • Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license and successfully pass a background check.
  • Other licensing may be required depending on position and/or area of assignment.
