Job Summary:
The Biological Technician will perform vegetation surveys for rangeland management on the Navajo Nation in the Ft. Defiance Agency. Vegetation surveys include identifying southwest plant species, vegetation cover, clipping and weighing plants, and using GPS instrumentation. The biological technician will need to be capable of identifying grasses, forbs, shrubs, and trees, with experience in using taxonomic keys. Technicians work in two person crews and will perform tasks under close supervision and/or from detailed procedures. Work is checked in progress or on completion. This work will require strenuous physical exertion, such as walking over uneven, slick surfaces while carrying heavy packs. This position requires camping onsite and company vehicle is provided for field work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Capable of identifying plants within multiple habitats in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
- Skilled use of topographic maps, compass, GPS units, and other field equipment is required.
- Safe operation of a four-wheel drive field truck.
- Ability to work in range of temperatures and wind conditions
- Other duties as assigned.
