Position: Building Maintenance Assistant
Reports To: Building Supervisor

One Hour Lunch Daily
Two Fifteen Minute Breaks Daily
Hours: Determined by Building Supervisor – 8 hours per day
Two weeks paid vacation annually and some Holidays
Job Summary: The Building Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and organized environment at the school. This position supports the administration, faculty, and staff by ensuring that the school is well-maintained and in good repair for its educational purposes. St Thomas Aquinas is looking for a friendly, motivated, and reliable staff member; with the ability to troubleshoot and find solutions quickly to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, patching, HVAC, and electrical work
- Custodial Work: Ensure that entries and common areas like gyms, lunch areas, restrooms, and classrooms are cleaned regularly
- Groundskeeping: Maintain the school grounds as needed for general upkeep (internal & external)
- Event Setup: Assist with the setup and cleanup for school events
- Vehicle Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of school-owned vehicles, as needed
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and standards
Qualifications:
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is often preferred
- Experience: Minimum three years’ experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or related fields is required
- Skills: Proficiency with basic hand and power tools, and a good understanding of various maintenance tasks
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform tasks that require physical stamina:
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment, occasionally
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50 pounds regularly/occasionally
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (alarms/emergency situations)
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
Additional Requirements:
- Fingerprinting: Candidates must undergo fingerprinting as part of the background check process
- Driving Record: A valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation; in addition to an MVR. Mileage log required when driving for entity.
- Drug Testing: Candidates may be subject to random drug testing to ensure a safe working environment
