About the Role
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix is seeking a skilled Technical Director service provider/freelancer to support the broadcast team for our weekly live televised Mass airing on CW7 across Arizona and across social media. This position serves as the central technical coordinator for our broadcast that reaches more than 50,000 viewers each week. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, technical expertise across multiple broadcast systems, and the ability to maintain high production standards in a live environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the live Mass broadcast, ensuring all technical elements run seamlessly
- Operate video switcher to execute precise camera cuts, transitions, and effects
- Coordinate with producers and technical crews before and during broadcasts
- Implement and execute special effects, transitions, and graphics during the live broadcast
- Call camera shots and direct camera operator during production
- Maintain the highest standards or technical quality throughout the broadcast
- Troubleshoot on-air issues promptly to minimize disruptions
- Ensure proper timing and pacing of the broadcast
- Coordinate integration of pre-recorded content as needed
- Make critical real-time decisions to maintain broadcast quality
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience directing live broadcasts or similar productions
- Technical proficiency with video switchers, audio boards, and graphic systems
- Proficiency with broadcast automation systems and software
- Knowledge of current broadcast industry standards and practices
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and quick decision-making skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
- Calm demeanor under pressure
- Basic understanding of Catholic Mass structure (or willingness to learn)
- Respectful of religious services and environments
Work Schedule
- Must be available every Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
- Occasional flexibility may be required for special liturgical events
