Direct Counsel has partnered with a leading law firm seeking a midlevel regulatory insurance associate to join its Washington, DC office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to focus on regulatory and corporate law within the insurance sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forming companies, negotiating reinsurance agreements, drafting program agreements, and advising clients on regulatory compliance matters, thereby directly contributing to the firm's commitment to excellence in legal services.
Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on regulatory and corporate insurance matters, including company formation and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate reinsurance agreements, program agreements, and broker agreements.
- Assist in the formation of captive insurance companies and provide ongoing regulatory compliance guidance.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex regulatory issues, delivering clear and concise guidance to clients.
- Represent clients in interactions with state insurance departments and other regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with colleagues across various practice areas to provide comprehensive legal solutions tailored to clients' needs.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in Washington, DC, or eligibility to waive in.
- 3-5 years of experience in regulatory and corporate law, preferably from a law firm.
- Strong understanding of state and federal insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in forming companies, contracting for reinsurance agreements, and drafting and negotiating program and broker agreements.
- Demonstrated track record in advising on the formation of captive insurance companies and regulatory compliance matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Associates also participate in a performance and hours-based bonus program.
