What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Artist position at Direct Mail Company?
We are seeking a full-time Production Artist to help manage creative projects, ensuring they meet clients' requirements and are formatted for the most efficient print and mail production.
Your role will be to take on designs during the final stages of development to ensure accuracy and prepare them for print or digital publication. To be successful in this position, you should combine strong creative and technical skills to format various images and illustrations. You should also have an eye for detail and some project management experience.
Ultimately, you will ensure our print and digital designs meet high quality standards, are produced accurately, efficiently and on-time. As a Direct Mail Production Artist you would be using Adobe CS and FusionPro variable data design software to write logic and precisely lay out variable and static elements on direct mail pieces in accordance with customer specifications.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with occasional overtime.
Position responsibilities
Work directly with customers, account managers, graphic designers, customer service reps, sales and production staff and customers to define printing requirements
Manage prepress process for print files, pre-flight graphics, layouts and fonts prior to print production
Prepare PDF or hard copy proofs for client to gain approval for production of job.
Layout print files for most efficient and cost effective reproduction
Review quality of final product before releasing to production processes on all jobs.
Ensure any variable data/mail merge data is accurately linked to print files
Manage printed jobs through the digital printing process, maintaining quality and turn times on all work.
Working closely with finishing and mailing department personnel
Act as a liaison between graphic design, production and customer service
Finalize designs using image editing software
Retouch images to improve quality both in print and digital formats
Suggest and apply image improvements, like creating gradients and layers
Follow deadlines to ensure timely printed materials for finishing and mailing
Archive produced images and graphics
Keep up-to-date with trends in graphic design techniques and software
Requirements
Proven work experience as a Production Artist, Graphic Designer or similar role
Hands-on experience with graphic design software and image editing tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator)
Experience with variable data printing software such as FusionPro or PrintShop Mail preferred
An ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Creativity skills with attention to detail
Portfolio of completed graphic designs and creative projects

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
