The role is brand new, full-time, manages one other individual and reports to the Operations Director.
JOB SUMMARY
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing the procurement of materials, components, and services necessary for DRS’s manufacturing operations; responsible for managing one operations coordinator’s day-to-day activities and workflow; developing and executing purchasing strategies; tracking metrics, negotiating deals, and managing vendors while maintaining positive relationships with all suppliers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop and implement effective procurement strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services
- Manage relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms to secure the best possible deals
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure an adequate supply of materials while minimizing excess stock and reducing carrying costs
- Collaborate with the production teams to understand materials and/or supplies needs to ensure alignment with manufacturing schedules
- Negotiate prices and contracts with suppliers while building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and cost, and implement corrective actions as necessary
- Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and emerging suppliers
- Facilitate recurring meetings with Leadership on monthly reports
- Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring adherence to financial targets and objectives
- Implement and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency and compliance with all relevant regulations
- Maintain accurate records of goods ordered and received
- Lead and mentor the purchasing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
- Utilize ERP and other procurement software systems to streamline and optimize purchasing processes
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
One full-time operations coordinator with specific purchasing responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Capable of collaborating well across departments
- Proficiency in ERP systems
- Advanced with Microsoft Office Suite software
- Able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional certification such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) a plus
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience in Purchasing or supply chain management, preferably in the manufacturing industry
- Minimum of 5 years experience in purchasing or supply chain management, preferably in the manufacturing industry
- At least 2 years supervisory experience of one team member
- Proven record of accomplishment managing supplier relationships and negotiating favorable terms
