Position Overview

The Secretary / CNA II supports licensed nurses by assisting with patient care and performing clerical duties under their direction. This role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail to ensure efficient patient support and administrative coordination. The Secretary / CNA II follows ARHS policies, regulatory standards, and ethical guidelines while maintaining excellence in patient safety, quality, and experience.

Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $16.50 per hour.

Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience - range is $16.50 per hour or more. Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is non-exempt and includes shift differentials for qualified shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Assist licensed nurses with direct patient care, ensuring adherence to CNA II scope of practice.

Perform clerical duties, including scheduling, data entry, and maintaining patient records.

Provide compassionate patient support and communicate effectively with families and healthcare teams.

Respond quickly and accurately to patient needs and emergency situations.

Maintain confidentiality and follow hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Position Requirements

Minimum Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Completion of a course leading to listing with the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC HCPR) as a CNA I.

Experience

Previous experience as a CNA preferred.

Required Registration / License / Certification

Current CNA II certification in North Carolina.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions.

Proficiency in delivering safe and effective patient care within licensure scope.

Knowledge of hospital protocols, patient care standards, and administrative tasks.

Exceptional customer service, computer skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Physical Demands

Continuous standing and walking for 8 hours per shift.

Speaking, reading, and writing for 8 hours per day.

Exposure to vibration and cramped spaces >

1 hour per day.

Frequent patient mobilization >

4 hours per day.

Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling 50 lbs.

Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.

Frequent fine motor skill use, hand dexterity, and close eye work.

Working Conditions

Regular exposure to bloodborne diseases.

Exposure to electrical, mechanical, and power equipment hazards.

Exposure to odorous chemicals, specimens, and unpleasant elements such as accidents and injuries.

Must handle emergency or crisis situations.

Irregular hours required, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking required.
