DYNW seeks a Visitor Information Assistant to provide retail and public-facing customer services at the Olympic National Forest Quilcene Office, in Quilcene, WA.
A DYNW Visitor Information Assistant is responsible for cashiering, reporting/tracking sales, stocking shelves, answering questions about merchandise, providing safe and accurate information on partnered public lands surrounding their location, opening and/or closing the sales area each day, data entry, monitors merchandise inventory levels, performs shipping and receiving of merchandise orders, and other duties as assigned. The position reports to the Branch Manager. The Branch Manager will establish the Visitor Information Assistants’ work schedule and evaluate their job performance.

- Hours: Wednesday through Friday: 7:30am – 4:00pm. (Days/Hours of operation may vary based on business need.)
- Note: The position is seasonal/part-time and subject to workload requirements and availability of DYNW and/or agency funds, facility access, and adequate agency staffing on site.
- Compensation range: $17.00 per hour.
Retail operations are critical to advancing DYNW’s mission–a Visitor Information Assistant is directly responsible for successfully implementing daily DYNW retail operations and visitor services. This position includes daily interaction with the public, interfacing with public lands managing agencies and staff, commanding a mastery of local interpretive information, interfacing with DYNW’s accounting and administrative staff, and incremental data entry for reports.
The position is based in Quilcene, WA, and supports daily DYNW business operations and provides visitor services including stocking, and opening/closing duties at the Olympic National Forest, Quilcene Office. This position reports directly to the Branch Manager at the Olympic National Forest, Supervisor’s Office, in Olympia, WA.
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing outstanding customer service and ensuring that visitors are served promptly, courteously and satisfactorily.
- General cashiering and cash management practices; ensuring that transactions are accurately conducted and properly entered into the cash register and credit card terminal.
- Monitoring the level of merchandise on shelves and restocking when necessary.
- Sharing public input with the Branch Manager regarding retail items, public feedback, and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Working closely with the Branch Manager to ensure that visitor feedback is taken into consideration in the operation of the sales area, maintaining public and office spaces for organization and cleanliness, providing safe and accurate information to the visiting public, interfacing with agency personnel.
- Receiving inventory shipments, applying price labels, regularly counts inventory levels, etc., and promptly submitting required documentation to Branch Manager.
- Recording and/or entering sales data into online and/or local databases for sales, tax, and pass reporting and compliance.
- Responsible for managing, tracking, and accounting for all State and Federal recreation passes within DYNW’s onsite inventory.
- Working closely with the Branch Manager to ensure monthly sales reports are accurate and submitted on time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Details:
- Reliable transportation required on a regular basis to/from Olympic National Forest, Quilcene Office, Quilcene, WA. (When operating a motor vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required.)
- Working conditions include interior climate-controlled locations, such as office and sales floor, as well as exterior locations in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to speak with individuals and/or groups of people, varying in size, for informal conversations on recreation activities and product questions.
- Ability to move throughout the walkways and parking areas of assigned workplace in varying weather conditions required.
- Ability to move through the sales floor and storage/office area(s) of assigned workplace, frequently carrying boxes and or bags of inventory required.
- Ability to squat, lift, and reach required for stocking and inventory management required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. required.
- Must be able to staff a point-of-sale desk in a standing or seated position for extended periods.
- Must be able to enter information into a digital database.
- Must be able to operate computer, utilize standard office software, operate multi-function devices, and leverage basic email skills.
- Must be eligible to be bonded.
- Aptitude for basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication via written solution, mental math, and/or digital calculating required.
- Work on weekends and some holidays required as scheduled.
