DSP/SLS Instructor
The DSP/SLS Instructor is responsible for providing 1:1 direct instruction to individuals diagnosed with autism, mild intellectual disabilities and other Regional Center qualifying disabilities. This role is to promote the health, safety and well-being of the client which will lead to a better quality of life. The Instructor will assist individuals with making proper choices in their lives while supporting and encouraging those choices. The Instructor supports clients with accomplishing daily living activities in their home and/or in the local community. The position provides necessary instruction to clients so as to assist them with maintaining their independence and safety in the community. This is a challenging position, it requires good judgment, excellent written and verbal communication skills, quick problem-solving skills and patience. The successful candidate must have the ability to develop a rapport and trust with our clients and have a genuine desire to serve our unique community. Instructors must be extremely organized, responsible and able to manage a fluctuating schedule. Previous experience in human services is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide community supervision to ensure the health and safety of individual served
- Assist individual served with planning meals, purchasing and preparing food
- Assist individual served with personal care including dressing, undressing, hygiene, toilet actives and other activities of daily living (if necessary)
- Assist individual served with money management
- Assist individual served with social/leisure exploration
- Assist individual served with housekeeping duties and maintaining their homes
- Assist individual served in developing independent living skills
- Prepare and maintain records of assistance rendered
- Maintain client confidentiality, follow reporting procedures regarding special incident reports
- Assist individual served with coordination of medical/dental and mental health services
- Monitor client progress towards goals; responsible for writing and organizing detailed notes and progress reports
- Teach community awareness to individuals served while they access their community via public transportation and travel training
- Attend required trainings, staff/progress meetings, annual & quarterly meeting with client and support team
- Responsible for managing a self-directed schedule
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications

- Minimum 1 year experience preferred supporting adults with developmental disabilities
- Valid California Drivers License
- Current auto insurance/registration, acceptable moving violation record
- Pass Criminal background check
- High School Diploma or GED
- CPR/First Aid, CPI Certificate
- Knowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities with dual diagnosis a plus
- Familiarity with Regional Center Services a plus
- Ability to exercise mature judgment and relate to individuals in a warm caring manner
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written skills
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task
- Results oriented, sound judgment, service oriented, assertive/persuasive
- High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects
- Ability to set priorities and be flexible based on changing priorities
- Active listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with management and client

- Transport client via personal vehicle and/or community transportation during training hours

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
