Front Desk Associate
Reports To: Membership & Administrative Coordinator
Nature and Scope of Position: Performs visitor service and sales duties at the front desk of the museum, providing high quality guest service and accuracy in executing transactions.
Key areas of responsibility:
Visitor Service
- Proactively interact with the general public, greeting and welcoming visitors.
- Welcome and check in admissions, school groups, special events, birthday parties and other museum programs.
- Answer questions on admission, memberships, museum exhibits, and other museum programs.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and emails in a friendly and professional manner, including routing calls and taking messages.
- Present a consistently professional, friendly, and enthusiastic demeanor in all dealings with visitors, trustees, donors, and vendors, both on the phone and in person.
- Deal diplomatically with visitor complaints and complaint response.
- Monitor the flow of visitors into, and out of, the museum, and notify appropriate staff of any inappropriate or unsafe activities.
- Collect visitor information, including visitor surveys.
- Work collaboratively with security and facilities staff and report maintenance and security needs.
Sales
- Perform opening and closing procedures for registers.
- Perform all aspects of admission procedures for the museum, including front-line cash receipts and control. Perform sales of admissions, memberships, birthdays, other museum events and programs, donations, and gift merchandise.
- Utilize Altru admission software in order to effectively complete assigned tasks.
Other
- Office duty type support to development department, as assigned
- Attend monthly staff meetings, if possible
- Other duties as assigned

- General office, sales, and customer service experience
- Experience working with retail point of sale systems
- Skills in utilizing Excel and data entry at an intermediate level
- Availability to work weekends and occasional evening events.
- Frequent standing, sitting, and walking with occasional climbing stairs, bending and lifting light loads (10lbs)
- Frequent repetitive movement tasks (typing, stuffing envelopes, collating documents/mailings)
- Use of computer and keyboard, listening and speaking in person and on the phone.
- Noise level varies from quiet to loud
- Temperature varies from hot to cold
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 34 per week
