Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor will operate in the Discovery Life Sciences Genomics Laboratory and will be responsible for overseeing the daily laboratory operations, managing the in-lab workflow (people and process), ensuring accurate sample processing and data reporting is achieved while maintaining quality control. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor will contribute to Discovery's mission by ensuring consistency of practices based on standard operating procedures and is also expected to work in a safe manner adhering to all company, state and federal regulatory requirements.
Must-Have Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or laboratory science from an accredited institution
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution and at least 6 months of acceptable supervised experience and/or relevant training
- 3 years of clinical laboratory leadership experience
- 5-6 years of clinical laboratory experience
- Knowledge and compliance of local, state and federal regulations to include but not limited to GCP/GCLP, 21 CFR Part 11, CLIA/CAP EH&S and HIPPA
- Ability to execute and prioritize tasks and drive results with a high focus on quality within the expected timeframe
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Proficient use of windows-based computer programs including word processing, spreadsheet, data management, internet and e-mail
- Proficiency with basic lab functions such as pipetting and basic laboratory math (conversions and calculations)
- Ability to apply feedback in a professional manner
- Intermediate level of understanding of scaling and capacity planning
- Automation experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily laboratory activities to ensure smooth workflows and optimal use of resources
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate laboratory staff
- Schedule and allocate staff efficiently to meet laboratory testing demands while managing labor costs and productivity
- Effectively plan, organize and schedule laboratory work
- Supervise, mentor, and provide training to laboratory staff
- Ensure laboratory staff follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and regulatory requirements
- Review and validate test results and ensure accuracy and timeliness in reporting
- Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork within the laboratory
- Monitor and ensure adherence to all quality control measures, safety standards, and laboratory protocols
- Oversee proficiency testing and quality assurance programs to maintain high levels of accuracy and reliability in test results
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of lab tests, including specimen handling, preparation, and analysis
- Maintain records of all laboratory activities, including quality control data, test results, and maintenance schedules
- Oversee and enforce the completion of timely laboratory records ensuring records are complete and accurate
- Review laboratory reagent and equipment qualifications
- Work with the Clinical Laboratory Lead to troubleshoot and resolve any operational or technical issues with laboratory equipment and procedures
- Follow the Laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable ranges of performance
- Identify and document problems that may adversely affect test performance, notifying the manager or director
- Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working order
- Provide feedback and recommendations to the Laboratory Manager/Director on improvements for laboratory efficiency and performance
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
- Report all concerns of quality and/or safety to Laboratory Management or the Safety Officer

Location and work hours:
- Onsite - Huntsville, AL (relocation assistance will be considered)
- Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm local time
- Less than 5% domestic or international travel required for mandatory site meetings and trainings
