Discovery Outlet is a Locally Owned & Operated Discount Variety Store in the Chattanooga Area. We have been in business since 2018, and currently have 3 locations the Chattanooga area (Hixon, & East Ridge) As well as a location in Cleveland, TN.
Our product mix is always changing as new and different merchandise arrives weekly. We strive to keep our pricing at least 20% less than traditional big box retail stores. Any time we buy a wholesale product at a good deal our goal is to pass those savings onto our customers and the community. We want to grow through retail commerce by offering quality name brand products for a great price with integrity. A customer cannot have a great experience shopping with us without a friendly smile at the register, a neatly stocked sales floor, or a helping hand in finding that specific product they might be looking for. We strive to offer a great experience for all of our customers and need motivated and caring individuals to help us succeed. We are looking for someone upbeat and personable with retail experience.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Provide excellent customer service, smile, greet and assist customers.
· Operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer’s purchase, collect payment from customers and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers with merchandise as necessary.
· Follow company merchandise processes; unpack, stock, restock, and rotate merchandise on shelves and build merchandise displays.
· Clean and organize the store, take out trash, dust, and help set up inside and outside displays.
· Ability to work a rotating, flexible schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends as necessary to meet the needs of the retail business.
· Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
· Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills. Being calm and professional under pressure. Does not become defensive or irritated.
· Understanding of safety policies and practices.
· Ability to read and follow directions and merchandise presentation guides.
· Knowledge of basic cash handling procedures.
· Basic mathematical skills.
· Ability to perform cash register functions.
· Ability to stock merchandise.
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Frequent walking and standing
· Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check out station, and stock merchandise; which may also require the ability to push and/or pull carts.
· Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, tape guns, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, pallet jacks.
· Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds
· Occasional climbing (using step ladder) up to heights of six feet
