POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
COMPLIANCE TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is work that involves visual inspections of storage tank components primarily at gas stations but also at other locations such as car dealerships, offices or properties that maintain storage tanks. The work requires knowledge of environmental assessment principles, practices, methods, techniques and procedures which is gained through training and experience. The work is standardized involving differing situations in which tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards requiring use of judgment. The work is performed in a somewhat uncontrolled environment where there are some risks and hazards, but they are generally known, predictable and mostly controllable. Operates motor vehicles, well sampling, personal computers and other standard office equipment. The physical demands are moderate and include walking and climbing to conduct field work and lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to standard practices and procedures, the worker plans and organizes the work and the work is reviewed in terms of quality, volume, timeliness and adherence to established methods, standards and policies. This is a non-exempt position.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Conducts visual inspections to assess the condition in regards to FDEP regulations that monitor storage tank owners. Work will be primarily at gas stations.
- Complete a report for each inspection location and maintains a copy of the report at the site as well as one to submit to Manager
- Reports any major issues such as fuel or water in containment areas where it should not be, any defective hoses, lids, etc
- Checks monitoring wells using assigned equipment
- Pump out water/ fuel from tank annular spaces
- Paint fill lids and monitoring well lids as necessary
- Builds and maintains customer relations in field to ensure excellent customer service and enhance the company’s image.
- Maintain company vehicle to include reporting any issues with company vehicle. Must maintain basic service needs such as tire rotations and oil change schedules (company paid for)
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of very basis FL DEP regulations regarding compliance of storage tanks, practices and methods.
- General knowledge of gas station components
- Knowledge of well monitoring and investigation techniques and procedures.
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret rules, regulations and technical manuals.
DESKTOP COMPUTER SKILLS:
· Internet – Using a computer application to complete online trainings, certifications, continuing education course work. Using email to exchange information such as work schedules, inspection reports, etc.
