Interpreter / Translator (Japanese – English)
Disneyland International is looking for a qualified professional interpreter/translator to support all forms of communication between the Walt Disney Company and Oriental Land Company relative to the Tokyo Disney Resort and associated businesses. The ideal candidate is a highly-motivated team player who has a passion for facilitating communication about the exciting work in the realm of theme park experiences.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated fluency in Japanese and English languages and proficiency at performing consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. Reading and writing proficiency for both languages is critical. Excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly analyze information and construe meaning in both languages will be required.
Responsibilities:
The individual will use his/her excellent verbal interpretation and written translation skills in English and Japanese in support of work related to the Tokyo Disney Resort. Responsibilities include interpreting at a variety of forums including business meetings, executive level presentations, technical workshops, park walk-throughs, events and lunches/dinners, as well as translating documents including business documents, presentations, articles, manuals, design packages, training materials, legal contracts, and surveys. The individual may work alone where appropriate, be paired with other interpreters for certain meeting assignments, or share translation work with others.
Basic Qualifications:
- Native level language proficiency in English and Japanese (TOEIC 950, JLPT NI)
- Professional experience in consecutive interpretation
- Professional experience in simultaneous interpretation
- Professional experience in whispering and equipment assisted simultaneous interpretation
- Ability to provide written translation service from English to Japanese and Japanese to English for a variety of document types
- Ability to interpret in online meetings
- Culturally competent for each target audience
- Ability to ask for clarification and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work effectively as a team player, and partner effectively with other interpreters
- Ability to be flexible to changes in business needs and schedules
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to manage sensitive documents
- Willingness to work in a variety of situations including meeting rooms, factories, outdoor park venues, restaurant, construction sites, large scale conferences, and other diverse settings
- Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time
- Willingness to learn new terminology including technical jargon and apply quickly
- Basic computer skills; namely in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Flexibility to work unique shifts as necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience or knowledge of project management, construction or engineering, entertainment, or architecture design. Knowledge of the Disney brand.
Preferred Education:
- College degree or equivalent experience
- Interpretation or translation studies
Location:
The office / work location for this role will be based in Glendale, CA; however, travel to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim and vendor facilities in Southern California will be routinely and frequently required
The hiring range for this position in California is $69,946 - $93,830 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
