Job Description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for an Investigative Analyst in its Law Enforcement Disclosure Unit. DANY is obligated to disclose to defense attorneys information that could be used to impeach the credibility of prosecution witnesses, including police officers and other law enforcement agents. In this position, the Investigative Analyst will help the Law Enforcement Disclosure Unit in the acquisition, analysis, and maintenance of this impeachment information, and help with the preparation of such materials for disclosure. The Investigative Analyst will be responsible for processing regular requests, helping to ensure that other analysts’ disclosures are legally sufficient, and communicating directly with ADAs on specific requests. The Investigative Analyst will also assist with some of the day-to-day activities of the Unit, including responding to ADA questions, ensuring material is received and disseminated to ADAs on time, and, where required, making redactions to records, including audio and video. The Investigative Analyst will also assist the LED Unit Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the Unit, including managing the intake of requests, checking officer folders to see if updates are required, and answering questions from ADAs that come into the LED Inbox.



Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the LED Unit Supervisor in reviewing files and folders for legal sufficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with the daily administrative tasks of the Unit, including checking officer folders to see if updates are required, assigning requests in the case management system, and answering ADA questions.
  • Process discovery requests from ADAs.
  • Where applicable, assist in the redaction of records.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents where required.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.


In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

  • Level 1 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
  • Level 2 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
  • Level 3 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree; ideally with a major or substantial coursework in math, statistics, law, and/or criminal justice.
  • Previous internship or work experience in law or the criminal justice field.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in the use of Excel to manage large amounts of data.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments required.
  • Ability to think and perform in a sometimes stressful and fast paced environment required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with law enforcement agencies to build institutional relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and ADAs.
  • Ability to retain on the job training for majority of responsibilities and tasks.
  • At least one year of prior experience as a paralegal, analyst, investigator, or equivalent OR six months of experience working with police disciplinary records as a paralegal, analyst, investigator, or equivalent.

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
