Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
Analyzes administrative management policies and practices, organizational directives, and office business practices and operations; prepares business analyses for administrative services; and recommends changes to promote efficient use of resources.
Assists in establishing administrative procedures for all activities; informs the Principal of operational and administrative challenges; recommends resolutions; and ensures that all procedures are documented and revised, as necessary.
Ensures efficient operation of the school main office and manages school administrative support tasks, including greeting and addressing concerns of students, parents, and the community; addressing telephone, email, and regular mail inquiries; maintaining various files, such as general correspondence, student records, reports, and reference materials; screening incoming mail and distributing appropriately; ordering supplies; typing and editing correspondence, and proofreading documents to ensure conformance with established administrative policies and procedures; sending and receiving faxes; performing data entry functions; and maintaining time and attendance records for employees of the school.
Assists the Principal in budget preparation, in analyzing budgetary, personnel, and organizational impacts from a budget perspective to satisfy changing school requirements and to maximize school efficiencies, and in maintaining expenditure control; compiles and analyzes monthly resource utilization reports, as requested; briefs the Principal on the status of various budget categories; and prepares budgetary reports, as requested.
Liaises with the Office of Human Resources to perform Human Resources activities, including tracking positions, preparing requests for personnel action, and processing PeopleSoftactions.
Works with the Principal, as requested, to develop operational objectives for the school which integrate into the overall plans and strategies of DC Public Schools; and helps the Principal to ensure that those operational objectives are realized.
Keeps abreast of pertinent administrative rules, regulations, procedures, and best practices; ensures that the operation of administrative aspects complies with established guidelines and requirements; adjusts policies and procedures accordingly, with the approval of the Principal; and communicates changes to school staff.
Assists the Principal in completing procurement tasks, such as writing Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
Attends staff meetings, staff development workshops, conferences, and other meetings as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and three years of related work experience.
Master's degree preferred.
Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector is a plus.
