Position Overview

The Office of Integrity is responsible for supporting resolution of stakeholder concerns in alignment with district-wide policies and procedures and supporting schools in meeting strategic performance targets for enrollment and attendance.

The Director, School Planning is responsible for leading, planning, and implementing efforts to support longterm planning at District of Columbia Public Schools with a focus on enrollment projections and supporting new and re-envisioned schools and programming. In addition, the Director will manage planning efforts for the Chancellor’s priority projects and district-wide strategy development. The Director will also work closely with the Office of Engagement and Partnerships and Office of Operations in engaging key stakeholders in decision-making.

The Director, School Planning will report to the Deputy Chief, Strategic School Planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives development and execution of district-wide program strategy through data collection and analysis.

  • Manages the analysis and presentation of data for internal and external audiences; communicates progress to key stakeholder groups and incorporates their input.

  • Facilitates leadership’s decision-making by analyzing and presenting relevant information and data, at times on extremely complex, difficult, controversial, or sensitive issues.

  • Identifies and systematizes successful operational and project management methods across the department with an emphasis on recording historical trends in enrollment and academic outcomes.

  • Works within and across divisions and with agency partners to improve and systematize DCPS’ data-sharing practices for both internal and external stakeholders, including creating dashboards, reports, and other data visualizations.

  • Represents DCPS at community engagements.

  • Maintains high level of transparency with community through consistent communications and trusting relationships.

  • Manages School Planning special projects, including equity initiatives, charter school collaboration, and partner organization conversations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five to seven years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with data systems structure and administration (QuickBase).
  • Proficient in synthesizing and leveraging large data sets through Excel, databases, and other platforms.
  • Experience with R or other sophisticated analytical and mapping software.
  • Technical expertise regarding data models and database design development; and strong knowledge of database reporting technologies and best practices preferred. Previous experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
