Job Title: Network Technician

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree with Technical Certification in Computer Systems or related field with 1 years working in Information Must have experience troubleshooting intermediate to large networks.
  • CompTIA Network - Certified, equivalent certification or ability to acquire certification within 12 months of hire;
  • CompTIA Security - Certified, equivalent certification or ability to acquire certification within 12 months of hire;
  • Cisco CCNA - Preferred
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good understanding of current switching and routing protocols including:
    • TCP/IP stack
    • VLAN tagging
    • Familiar with other L2/L3 protocols
  • Proven experience monitoring and troubleshooting local and wide area technologies for large organizations
  • Experience in various host-level operating systems, how they interact on the networks and how to manage and debug network stack and network services issues
  • Experience in troubleshooting, installing, programming and maintaining VOIP phones, PBX systems, Audio/Video (CATV) systems
  • Experience in troubleshooting, installing, programming, and maintaining intercom/clock/bell/public address systems
  • Experience with remote access technologies
  • Experience with the product lines and technologies for multiple major vendors
  • Expertise in network monitoring and management
  • Organized work habits and project management skills
  • Strong skills at working alone and in teams
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Network Architect may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Network Technician is responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting the network. The Network Technician works with the Network Architect to implement projects at request. This position will be assigned monitoring and troubleshooting of specific systems to maintain security and network best practices.

 

  • Has constant access to confidential information and works with administration on management policies and investigations, therefore must respect and safeguard sensitive, confidential or privileged information
  • Responsible for dealing with tier 2 networking tickets
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete documentation, records and reports
  • Provide network support of school and district networks
  • Install software on the network as well as off-shelf applications
  • Enter network users, change passwords, move files as users move from one file server to another, and ensure network security
  • Develop solutions to method of installations to ensure smooth operation of the network system
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems relating to the operation of the network

  • Collaboration with technicians to explain and troubleshoot network issues
  • Install and upgrade routers, switches and various networking equipment
  • Interact with schools and departments for connection to the network and data and help make changes to the system to facilitate access to school district data
  • Evaluate software and hardware for school district use and to ensure programs and hardware meet the needs of the system’s users
  • Responsible for the deployment, maintenance and upgrade of VOIP phones, voicemail accounts and PBX system configuration
  • Responsible for the deployment, maintenance and upgrade of UPS units
  • Cross trains with systems administrator to assist in systems management
  • Provide network monitoring and support of school and district networks to include Local Area Networks (LANs), and Wide Area Networks (WANs)
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of
