Primary Objective: The school nurse provides healthcare services to students, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. The nurse works to ensure a safe and healthy school environment, responds to health emergencies, and collaborates with parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals. The school nurse will help manage the day to day care of students. Care includes, but is not limited to, basic daily triage of students, ensuring medication is administered to students as needed, the management of students with higher medical needs, the ability to quickly assess a situation and determine the best course of action. The nurse should have the ability to work independently.
Required Qualifications:
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
- Eligible or Obtained CDE Special Service Provider License with the School Nurse Endorsement
- First Aid, CPR certified
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care to students, including those with chronic conditions and disabilities that require care during the school day.
- Oversee all health services within the school, including immunization surveillance and health screenings.
- Identify vision, hearing, and other health issues in students that could create a barrier to learning.
- Provide Illness and injury assessments and interventions
- Serve as a liaison among the school and parent, doctors, case managers, teachers, and other stakeholders in child health.
- Infectious disease prevention.
- Train and delegate to school staff for emergency response.
- Support school wellness plan.
- Contribute to health policies, programs, and curriculum within the school system.
- Develop health-related aspects of special education and emergency response plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
